When we first heard that The Beatles, MTV Games, and Harmonix are officially teaming up to create an all-new videogame based on the music of the Beatles, well, we here at EAR FARM collectively went bananas. As anyone who has ever played either Rock Band or Guitar Hero can attest to, the joy of “playing” one of your favorite songs ever on guitar, bass, drums, or vocals, can not be understated. To play the songs of The Beatles?!?!!! Get back.
After we tempered our excitement enough to hold a conversation, we sat down with The Beatles’ catalog to decide which twenty songs we were most looking forward to rock-banding out to, instrument by instrument (nerd alert). Sure, there are the obvious ones such as “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”, “Revolution”, the Abbey Road Medley, “Helter Skelter”, “Hey Jude”, “Get Back”, “I Am the Walrus”, etc etc; but we tried to come up with songs that were a bit beyond the usual suspects. In doing so, we limited our picks to one song per album per category/instrument - just to keep it fresh and more varied. Check out our choices below and let us know what you’re most excited to play, or what we missed, in the comments. (Note: all links below are YouTube links)

ED note: I’m curious how they’ll handle the piano parts and the horns and strings and tape loops and auxiliary instruments… whatever they do, I sure hope they’re able to figure out a way to have multiple mics/vocalists in this version of Rock Band - it’s essential with The Beatles. Even if the extra mics don’t have scoring capabilities but rather just allow you to freely harmonize with backup vocals… something! You hear me MTV Games/Harmonix??

No ‘Hey Bulldog’ in the bass list? No ‘Rain’ in the drums list? No ‘Happiness is a Warm Gun’ listed anywhere?
I can’t wait to play any and all Beatles songs included, they’re my all-time favourite band and if done well (which I’m worried it might not be) it’ll be brilliant!

Hmm…I like “Ballad of John and Yoko” and “Dear Prudence” on bass, and a very nice call on “Tomorrow Never Knows” on drums.
