Monday, July 14th is Bastille Day, la fête nationale française. The French national holiday - that’s July 4th to us Americans. The holiday “commemorates the 1790 Fête de la Fédération, held on the first anniversary of the storming of the Bastille on 14 July 1789; the anniversary of the storming of the Bastille was seen as a symbol of the uprising of the modern French nation, and of the reconciliation of all the French inside the constitutional monarchy which preceded the First Republic, during the French Revolution.” Perfect time for a mix, oui?
In other news, France’s lovely first lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy has released a brand new album of original music (listen HERE), the Tour de France is going strong, and Carla’s husband Nicolas Sarkozy pledged to push through the new European Union’s Treaty by the end of the year during France’s six-month rotating EU presidency. France is, like, the deal and shit right now. Vive la France! To celebrate all of this we have… la musique!

i haven’t quite figured out how to make one of these mixes, but here are some additional french acts that could go on the mix:
-Francoise Hardy (OG yeye singer, possibly the originator of the ’60s Jane Fonda haircut)
-Chantal Goya (Yeye singer who starred in Godard’s Masculin/Feminin)
-Rockets (sometimes proggy electro-pop played by dudes painted silver)
-Gong (I think Daevid Allen was an ex-pat living in France at some point, if that counts)
-Stinky Toys (The French answer to The Sex Pistols mixed with the French Answer to Blondie)
-Elli et Jacno (minimal synth followup to Stinky Toys)
-any of the classic minimal synth from the BIPPP comp., which just got a proper US release a couple of months ago.
All that together will make you want to french.
