Citysol, an event intended to empower NYC residents “with the vision, knowledge, and reources to attain a more environmentally sound and sustainable future”, was originally meant to include The Dirty Projectors, Dan Deacon, and the world premiere of So Percussion’s 16 Words, a contemporary classical work inspired by the 16 words added to the Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary in 2007. Four pairs of tickets to the private Albert Hammond, Jr. found happy homes on Friday. Congrats go out to all the winners from the first round of EAR FARM’S TRIVIA HELLFIRE; we were quite pleased with the turnout. For those who didn’t score tickets, fear not, you have another chance. We still have ONE more pair of tickets to give away, and it also looks like there’ll be at least a few more chances to see Albert Hammond this summer - he’ll be playing the Virgin Megastore at Union Square a week from Tuesday and also will be opening for Regina Spektor at McCarren Pool on August 15th. Until then, answer any TWO of the questions below and look out for the release of ¿Cómo Te Llama? next Tuesday, July 8th. Good luck! Read more

With 2008 now more than halfway completed, we here at EAR FARM wanted to take a look at our favorite albums that’ve been released thus far this year. To do so we’ve broken down ten favorite albums (each) from both Mike and myself with a blurb, a link to purchase, and a sample song from each one. We’re aware that there are lots of good records we’re missing here, so we invite each of you to offer up your own favorites of 2008 in the comments. And remember: with full-length records from New Kids on the Block, Coolio, Miley Cyrus, and many other favorites still to be released later this year, you can bet our lists will look a lot different when we return in December to recap our overall Top Albums of 2008. For now, let’s take a look at EAR FARM’s favorites of the first half of the year… Read more
The holiday gods did a damn fine job making sure the 4th of July fell on a Friday this year. Now, instead of awkward mid-week recesses or anticlimactic Monday get-downs - both scenarios cruelly bookended with bleary retreats back to the cubicle - we get a perfectly placed day for grilling, chilling, chanting U.S.A. and enjoying us some music. Hooray America! And like the fast food options available to us throughout our great country, this week offers supersized portions of music-related goodness to those brave souls choosing to remain in the five boroughs. So, for this week’s Countdown, may we suggest some holiday week plans? Read more

Summertime for me is an extremely hot city. The buildings and pavement and extra people all trap the heat and humidity and everything gets slightly cooked. Garbage and urine smells fill the air and subway platforms melt pets and small children. The only sanctuary is music. Particularly, electric funk. Electro. That’s what summer in New York sounds like. And in my imagination, everyone breakdances around like those dudes above from Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo. Read more
EAR FARM’s Three for Free: three EF approved, free and legal MP3s posted whenever the mood strike us. This time around we’ve got three songs that have recently found their way to us via email. And yes, that’s Extreme. Extreme! As in Nuno Bettencourt. As in GUITAR GOD ferociousness. Click on the artist/band name to go to their site, click on the song name to listen to the song. Read more
What’s hot right now? Death Valley, hybrid vehicles, pregnancy pacts, short shorts, keyboard pants, When You Are Engulfed In Flames by David Sedaris, NYC Waterfalls, probiotics, etc. etc. ad infinitum… it’s tough to keep up with it all sometimes. We sure can’t. However, one thing that we’ve got covered is the question of ‘what’s hot?’ in the world of music videos. Check them out below. Read more

“Rio Bravo” by Brian Wilson which clocks in at 8:16.
Brian Wilson’s reclamation of his own legacy over the past five years has been nothing short of remarkable. Pop music’s very own Lazarus, the man who even 40 years ago just wasn’t made for these times now seems busier than ever. He’s simply unstoppable, working at a frenzied pace that rivals even his most manic era of musical immersion from back in the day. Read more
