In case you’re unaware, today is the summer solstice. Yeah I know, I thought it was June 21st as well, but then Leap Year came along and effed with the Gregorian Calendar and through calculations I can’t understand we’re left with TODAY being the longest day of the year! It’s true, Wikipedia says so…
So, are you a glass half full or glass half empty kind of person? If it’s the former, you’re probably already lamenting the inevitable loss of daylight that will commence tomorrow. You’re also perhaps pointing to the showers and thunderstorms that may be headed towards Brooklyn later this afternoon (and potentially hamper this session of unbridled daylight) with a helpless shrug. Well, shame on you.
Now, if you happen to run with the latter crowd, you’re in good company. Just when we thought the Beatles taught us all they knew about meteorology (Sun King = everybody laughing, everybody happy, mundo paparazzi mi amore?) we learn that Paul McCartney can actually CONTROL the weather.
Four years ago to this very day, Macca played his 3,000th concert in Russia to a crowd of 100,000 adoring fans. The only problem was that dark clouds on the horizon threatened to rain on the event. The solution? He had three jets spray dry ice all over the clouds shortly before he went on, which helped contain the precipitation within them and thus ensure a sunny June 20th performance. He sure as hell wasn’t going to let it rain on his parade, and neither should we. It’s the solstice dammit! And a Friday!

This drawing shows the cloudbusting process McCartney used when playing God. It’s like the Butterfly Effect, except different. You can read more about it HERE
But if it does happen to rain and you find yourself sans dry-ice-equipped-jet access, you can still keep the spirit of the longest day of the year alive. Listen to “American Pie” a few dozen times, search the internets for a copy of this concert DVD, or even try and learn all 500 verses to “The Devil Glitch”. Whatever you choose, don’t give up on the day, it’s too long for that. Just keeping asking yourself: WWPMD?

Looked at the forecast - supposed to rain for the next 5 days. What’s up with that? Is this normal weather for NY?
